Summary
Teething is a normal part of infant development.
Teething disturbances may associate with anomalous development, general or local pathology in the oral cavity. The current understanding of physiological process of tooth eruption is very important.
This paper presents three main stages of primary tooth eruption: pre-eruptive, pre-functional and post-eruptive. The timing of tooth eruption is regulated by many factors like genetic, paragenetic and environmental. Established timing standards of first teeth eruption is presenting. The authors describe local and systemic reasons of primary tooth eruption timing disturbances. The study shows association between systemic and local teething sign and symptoms. Pain may result from elevation of inflammatory mediators like cytokine in the cervicular fluid and in tissues surrounding the erupting teeth.
