Summary
External hemorrhoids are located outside to the dentate line and covered by anoderm. Thrombosed external hemorrhoids are one of the frequent acute anorectal disease. However, this disease still pose a serious therapeutical problem in Poland. Thrombosed external hemorrhoids appear mostly in young patients who have been diagnosed with a hemorrhoidal disease before, patients with diarrhea or constipation and patients prolonged sitting. Patients go to a hospital because of pain in anorectal region which is caused by internal sphincter hypertonicity. Pain caused by thrombosed external hemorrhoids is presented during standing, sitting or defecating.
An early diagnosis of the thrombosed external hemorrhoids and applying an appropriate treatment is an effective procedure in this disease. Conservative treatment and surgery are methods of treatment of perianal thrombosis. Incision or excision of the thrombosis are surgical treatment. The best effects of surgery of thrombosed external hemorrhoids are during first 72 hours after onset.
In the following article the authors present a case of a 34-years-old male patient treated conservative for thrombosed external hemorrhoids and also review the latest literature referring to this proctological issue.
