Summary
Introduction: Many illnesses and clinical conditions lead to secretion disorders in stomach, often with hypo- or achlorhydria. The latter, due to hypergastrinemia, as a consequence, may result in difficult to cure and dangerous complications. Among them, one should notice several potential adverse effects associated with proton pump inhibitor therapy, including enteric infections (eg, Clostridium difficile), gallbladder dyskinesia due to elevated baseline sphincter of Oddi pressure and potentially most dangerous carcinogenesis within the gastrointestinal tract. The latter is associated exactly with hypergastrinemia and causing both ECL cell hyperplasia and dysplasia and acceleration of atrophic gastritis development.
Aim: The aim of study is to evaluate the influence of radically modified diet, consisting of products rich in the most important short chain fatty acids, in selected group of patients.
Material and methods: This article presents the observation on group of total thirty patients with the following disorders: chronic pancreatitis, biliary reflux or stomach secretion imbalances after proton pump inhibitors chronic intake. To patients in period up to nine months, the natural sources of slow-chain fatty acids were given.
Results: In all patients, relief from the major clinical symptoms, i.e. epigastric pain, lack of appetite, dyspepsia, heartburn, enteritis or bacterial superinfection, respectively to the cause was observed.
Conclusion: In all presented patients, application of diet rich in short chain fatty acids led to beneficial effects and among them to more often felling of hunger and improvement in feeding status.
