Summary
Radiosynovectomy (RS) is performed to destroy chronic synovitis, which cause chronic intrarticular bleeding in patients with hemophilia. The aim of this study is to present our experiences in performing RS in young patients with congenital bleeding disorders.
Material and methods: Overall 83 RS in 43 patients were carried out between 2006 and 2010, it consists of 28 knee joints (34%), 35 elbow joints (42%), 17 ankle joints (20%) and 3 shoulder (4%). 20 patients had more than single radiosynovectomy. Patients who was treated included 36 with arthropathy accompanying Haemophilia A complicated by present of inhibitors in 5 cases, 4 children with haemophilia B (2 with inhibitor) and 3 with von Willebrand disease type 3. In this paper we present methods used in synovectomy and procedures carried out before and after radiosynovectomy.
Conclusions: Radiosynovectomy performed in children with congenital bleeding disorders and haemarthrosis improves the range of motion in most of the patients, significant reduces the number of bleedings into the joint, reduce pain of affected joint as well as improves quality of life in most of the patients and is completely safe to performed.
