Anemia is a morbidity which the concentration of hemoglobin and total mass of red blood cells decreases below concentration ensuring right tissue oxidation. Anemia in pregnancy is one of the most frequent pathologies of pregnancy. As recommended by the World Health Organization anemia during pregnancy is defined as the concentration of haemoglobin below 11 g/dl in the first and third trimesters and below 10.5 g/dl in the second trimester. In Poland the most common anemia in pregnant women is anemia associated with iron deficiency 75-87% of all cases. In second place is anemia caused by lack of folic acid and thereafter vitamin B12. Anemia in pregnant may lead to irregular pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium and complications in the embryo and fetus. Risk of anemia is increased in pregnant women whose diet is monotonous and poor in hematopoietic components, so you should inform future mothers how to change your eating habits to eat properly so. In the treatment of mild anemia caused by iron deficiency, folic acid, vitamin B12 is often sufficient to increase the intake of foods providing these nutrients. Pregnant woman needs to adapt the diet to today's needs and their child. Ensure diversity of products consumed during pregnancy is more important than before pregnancy.
