Summary
Cranberry is a very popular plant growing on marshlands in Europe, Siberia, United States and Canada. These inconspicuous fruits have been willingly consumed and used in folk medicine for centuries. Atractive colour and characteristic a bit tart taste make cranberry very important component of many dishes and food products as jams, sauces or drinks. Nowadays we rediscover advantages of this plant. We can buy fresh, dried or freezed fruits. Richness of many bioactive components for example phenols, anthocyanins, oligomeric proanthocyanidines, flavonols and organic acids, determinates antioxidant, antimicrobial and antiadhesion activities of juice, what make cranberry very helpful in prevention and treatment of many diseases as urinary tract infections, heart diseases and cancer.
