Summary
The sensitivity to cedar oil 63 strains of yeastlike fungi isolated from patients with infections of oral cavity or respiratory tract and 6 references strains were investigated. The susceptibility of Candida strains was determined by the plate dilution technique in Sabouraud agar. The inoculum contained 106 CFU per spot. The agar plates containing appropriate oil concentrations and without oil (fungi strains growth control) were inoculated using a Steers replicator. Incubation the plates was conducted in 37°C in aerobic conditions for 24 hours. The MIC was defined as the lowest concentrations of the cedar oil completely inhibiting the growth of yeastlike fungi. The results showed, that most susceptible to essential oil in ranges = 3,1-25,0 mg/ml were the strains from genus of Candida parapsilosis and C. utilis. Among fungi species, the strains from the genus of C. guilliermondii, C. humicola, C. kefyr and C. krusei were the lowest sensitive to tested oil. The MICs of oil were in ranges from 37,5 to = 50,0 mg/ml.
