Summary
The number of patients diagnosed and treated surgically for abdominal aortic aneurysm is growing from year to year. This situation is connected basically with the fact that the society is growing old.
The first effective operation on a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm was performed by Gerbode in 1954. The death rate caused by a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm in patients over 80 is 92%. Despite such poor statistics each patient suffering from the abdominal aortic aneurysm should be operated on.
In the following article we present a case of an 87-year-old man successfully cured of a ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm.
