Legionella pneumonia is the only one obligatory notified picture of legionellosis in many European countries – not Pontiac fever. So the majority of information about travel-associated legionellosis concerning a Legionella pneumonia. The aim of this study was to discuss the problem of Pontiac fever: microbiological examination, clinical manifestation different from Legionella pneumonia, incidence rate, time of incubation, etiological agents involved into infections. Those data and discussion, focused on travel-associated Pontiac fever were presented to the epidemiologists and physicians in Poland. The microbiological examination in 3 out of 4 mentioned travel-associated outbreak of Pontiac fever based on serological examination because of etiological agents: T.micdadei and L.pneumoniae sg 6. In the fourth outbreak (casued by L.pneumophila sg 1) the main diagnostic method was urine antigen test. Such tests, commercially available, are concentrated to detect an infection due to L.pneumophila sg 1. Pontiac fever very often might be unrecognized very often because of using urine antigen test for diagnosis only. The PCR method might solve the problem of diagnosis Legionella infection due to other than L.pneumophila sg 1 bacteria and without pneumonia.
