Summary
This article presents the current views on the relationship between diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases and periodontal diseases. The presented researches confirm that inflammatory process in periodontal tissues is associated with increased markers of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Diabetes is a complex diseases characterized by numerous variables that can influence the development of complications including periodontitis. Thus very important is the early diagnosis of diabetes, control of glycemy and cooperation between periodontologist, diabetologist and cardiologist to stop the progression of these diseases.
