Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a diverse group of hereditary diseases in which certain cells of the immune system have difficulty forming the reactive oxygen compounds used to kill catalaze positive microorganisms. In this disorder often is noticed gingivitis and infection lesions in oral mucosa, which may be source of bacteriemia and general infections.
Aim of study was assessment of gingival pocket's microbiological status and usefulness of ozono-therapy in pathogen elimination in periodontal tissue in children with chronic granulomatous disease.
In six boys with chronic granulomatous disease (mean age 11.6 ± 1.8 years) and with gingivitis there were examined oral hygiene status (Pl I), gingivitis (GI) and microbiological composition of gingival pokets before and after ozon application (Perio-Analyse).
Hygiene was satisfactory in none of examined subjects. In two boys level of inflammatory was mild, in other moderate or intensive. Fusobacterium nucleatum was isolated from all gigngival pockets, and in 5 cases additionally Peptostreptococcus micros. In two boys – were observed bacteries of red complex. Number of Fusobacterium nucleatum decreased after ozon application in gigngival pocket in all cases.
Results suggest, that in person with hronic granulomatous disease exists risk of periodontitis development. There is treatment and prophylaxis necessity, where ozono-therapy may be aid method.
