Summary
Introduction: An epidemiological study was carried out in the region of Łódź amongst 6-year old children for the year 2008.
Objectives: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the prevalence of carries, caries severity measured by the DMF index for secondary teeth and dmf index for primary teeth among 6-year old children in the region of Łódź.
Material and Methods: 126 children aged 6 were randomly selected and examined, of which 67 children were from a big town, 32 from small town and 27 from a village respectively. The methodology was based on clinical examination according to WHO standards. The prevalence of carries, DMF and dmf index and treatment index was calculated in the region of Łódź.
Results: The studies indicated that the prevalence of caries decrease about 3% for 6-year old children in the region of Łódź. Mean dmf in primary teeth was reduced in each region compare to result from previous years. Treatment index for primary teeth increase in big town (0.36) and small town (0.33) but decease in village (0.13).
Conclusions: Dental state of 6-year old children in the region of Łódź improved during last 3 years.
