Summary
Prostate cancer incidence is on the rise worldwide. Therefore there is a great need for accurate and early diagnosis of prostate cancer cases. Although epidemiological trends show increase in cancer morbidity the mortality stays on more or less constant level, it may suggest that some cancer cases are unnecessarily treated. Means of prostate cancer diagnosis are described and discussed. The author presents methods of treatment for localized prostate cancer. Emphasize is put on surgical treatment but important attention is turned to radiation therapy of the disease. The novel method of prostate cancer brachyterapy is also described.
