Summary
Essential thrombocythaemia is not as rare disease as it was thought decades ago. With the increased use of screening with automated blood counting the patients with the increased platelet counts are beeing found more frequently. Here we discuss the new aspects of investigations of this disease, the problems of diagnosis which is based more on exclusion criteria than inclusion ones and the clinical problems. We also present the current and new methods of treatment of this disease.
