Summary
Idiopathic osteoporosis is very rarely observed at the developmental age. Some authors mark off idiopathic juvenile osteoporosis [IOM] within the gropu as a form with a severe and acute pattern and with fractures of vertebrae and/or extremities. The diagnosis of osteopenia, however, is based on densitometric examination, first of all as clinical symptoms are often unclear.
The results of the osteopenic children examinations showed that the decreased mineral density is accompanied by various deviations in biochemical investigations, for instance the increase of the bone isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase activity, the increased hydroxyproline excretion in the urine, the decrease of PTH and 25 OHD in the serum. As the above research shows osteopenia in children and youths is the indication to deepened diagnostics of the bone metabolism disturbances.
