Summary
Plantago psyllium L.is a plant cultivated in Mediterranean area, North Africa and India. It is used in folk medicine for curing various aliments. The results of modern research prove the validity of using psylli semen for teraphy alimentary canal diseases, such as: diarrhea, constipation, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome. Clinical trials prove validity of using Plantago psyllium L. in order to decrease LDL ("bad”) cholesterol level. This herbal plant indicate beneficial therapeutic effects in treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes. Plantago psyllium L.has been considered to be utilized as remedy against certain kinds of cancer, however this theory requires confirmation in clinical trials.
