Summary
Plants belonging to the genus Phyllantus are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia and South America. Many species of this genus have been used for centuries in folk medicine of India and China in the treatment of liver and urinary tract diseases. During the last years several in vivo and in vitro experiments confirmed their antiviral, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and stimulant urinary stones dissolution properties. Among them, the inhibition of hepatic virus type B replication is special of interest. The article summarizes the results of research on pharmacological activity of different Phyllantus extracts, particularly obtained from two medicinal plants P. amarus and P. niruri.
