Summary
This overview present the Solaren, a herbal drug, containing ethanol extract of Curcuma longa L. Curcuma longa (turmeric) is a member of the Zingiberaceae family. The plant growth and is cultivated extensively in Asia, India, China and other countries with tropical climate. Turmeric has a long tradition of use in the Chinese and Ayurvedic system of medicine. In medieval Europe turmeric was known as „Indian Saffron. Curcuma longa was recently becomes popular in Western cultures. It play an important role as a colouring agents in foods, textiles, cosmetics and as spice.
The active constituents of Curcuma longa are curcumin (diferuilometane) and volatile oil (including turmerone, atlantone and zingiberone). Turmeric extract exhibit anticarminative, antiflatulence, antibechic, antidispepsia, hepatoprotective, antipeptic ulcer, antispasmodic, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, anticarcinogenic, hypolipidemic and antimicrobial effect.
