Summary
The results of studies on the activity of ethanol extracts from propolis (EEP) against aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungi and pathogenic protozoa showed the highest sensitivity of anaerobic bacteria (MIC=0.03-3 mg/ml) to this product. The mean antibacterial activity showed EEP against Gram-positive and Gram-negative cocci, coryenbacteria and mycobacteria (MIC=0.075-10 mg/ml) also protozoa (MIC=0.05-9 mg/ml). It should be added that the few data indicate the killing of staphylococci only in concentration 12-21 mg/ml and Entamoeaba histolytica survived in presence of 20 mg/ml EEP.
The least sensibility to EEP had Gram-negative bacteria (fermentative and non-fermentative) (MIC=4-20 mg/ml EEP) also yeast fungi and moulds (MIC=5->25 mg/ml EEP).
