Summary
Ginkgo biloba L. is a plant coming from China where it has been used for many years in traditional Chinese medicine. From China the plant was brought to the USA, Europe, here also to Poland. Ginkgo biloba is characterised by longevity and resistance to environmental pollution, pests and diseases. This is a plant especially valuable because of its properties as a neuroprotector, antioxidant, inhibitor of platelet-activating factor, and apoptosis inhibitor. Extract from Ginkgo biloba leaves is, among others, used in the therapy of Alzheimer´s disease, disturbances of cerebral and peripheral blood flow and vascular dementia.
