Summary
A total of 80 strains of oral-like fungi isolated from samples obtained from patients with infections of oral cavity were tested. The susceptibility yeast-like fungi to the Citrosept (Cintamani) was determined by means of plate dilution technique in Sabouraud agar. The inoculum containing 106 CFU per spot was seeded with Steers inoculator upon the surface of agar. Incubation was performed in aerobic conditions at 37°C for 24 or 48 h ( for slow growth strains). The MIC was interpreted as the lowest concentration of the Citrosept inhibiting the growth of yeast. The results indicated, that studied grapefruit seed extract was very active against the yeast-like fungi. The strains belonging to the genera of Saccharomyces were the most sensitive to Citrosept (MICs for 100% of strains were <12,5 mg/ml) and from genus of Geotrichum candidum (MIC for 63% of strains were Ł 12,5-25,0 mg/ml). The strains of Candida albicans were less sensitive. The minimal inhibitory concentration of 36% these strains were from Ł 12,5-50,0 mg/ml, for 4% strains were 100,0 mg/ml and for 60% strains Ł 200,0 mg/ml. The strains belonging to the genus of Candida kefyr, C. mesenterica and C. parapsilosis were the lowest sensitive to Citrosept MIC ł 200,0 mg/ml).
