Summary
The estimation of knowledge included in old prints, literature from XIX century and instructions of folk medicine referring to therapeutical features of Lactuca sp. (L.) has been done. The above knowledge has been confronted with the up-to-date knowledge about the usage of these species in the therapy. It has been found that Lactuca sp. (L.) are a valuable medicinal plants. After complementary phytochemical and pharmacological research it can be used in the therapy of some diseases.
