Summary
The chemical composition and antimicrobial activity of essential oil and gallenic preparations received from rosemary and sage leaves were estimated. GC/MS analysis showed that the main compounds of rosemary oil and gallenic preparations were: 1,8-cineole, a-pinene, camphor, borneol, camphene and bornyl acetate.
Verbenon was identified only in Extractum Rosmarini 50. The value of verbenon was 10,2 percent. In Oleum Rosmarini and Tinctura Rosmarini were not detected this compound.
Main compounds of Oleum Salviae, Tinctura Salviae and Extractum Salviae 50 were: a- and b-thujone, camphor, 1,8-cineole, viridiflorol and borneol.
Microbiological investigations showed that essential oils and tinctures received from rosemary and sage leaves had similar high antimicrobial activity. Higher antimicrobial activity of Extractum Rosmarini 50 in comparison to Extractum Salviae 50 can result from considerable higher concentration of 1,8-cineole, borneol and verbenon in rosemary preparation.
