Summary
Reactive forms of the oxygen can interact with different cellular structures, causing canversion of proteins, perioxidation of lipids or re-modeling of nucleic acids. Chronic oxidating stress might be responsible for development of some: neurodegenerative, cardiovascular diseases, neoplasms, diabetes, atherosclerosis, as well as some ophthalmic diseases like: cataract, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration. And so, it´s imperative to keep oxydating-antioxidating action balance. Antioxidating enzymes, glutatione, ascrobic acid, vitamin E, carotenoids, flavonoids, melatonine, ubichinone, transferin and ceruloplasmin are the most crucial human´s antioxydants. High-antioxidants diet favours health and prevents from different diseases including ophthalmic ones.
