Streszczenie
Two major factors are critical to the development of atopic diseases: the individual´s genetic background and the environment. The gene for asthma has not yet been identified. Thus, environmental factors appear to be the critical factors that can be controlled. Current recommendations for the primary prevention of allergy include exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, avoiding of maternal smoking during pregnancy and infancy and reducing levels of house-dust mite in some environments. In high-risk infants a documented extensively and partially hydrolyzed formulas are recommended if exclusive breastfeeding is not possible for at least first 4 month of life. Scientifically composed functional foods containing probiotics offer a nutritional strategy for both the prevention and the management of allergic disease.
