Streszczenie
The aim of the treatment of children with IBD is to relive symptoms, induce remission, prevent relapses of the disease and to maintain appropriate growth. Medical treatment used in IBD consists of pharmacotherapy, nutritional support and surgery. The choice of the treatment method depends on activity and severity of the disease and nutritional status of the child. The role of nutritional support in children with IBD is to provide adequate nutrient and colonic intake and to decrease intestinal losses. Feeding children with IBD ranges from normal or elemental diets to TPN depending on nutritional status, the degree of malabsorbtion and to the disease activity and severity. 5 ASA compounds, steroids and immunosuppresive agents are used in the treatment of IBD in children. Probiotics, Prebiotics, SCFA and fish oil are of supportive value. Heparin, nicotine, growth hormone were used in experimental trials. When conservative treatment fails surgery is recommended.
