Streszczenie
Herpes Simplex Virus ( Herpesviridae family, Alphaherpesvirinae subfamily) occurs worldwide and infects only human beings. HSV takes two types: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Type 1 is more frequently associated with oral disease, whereas HSV-2 with genital and perianal disease. Viruses are characterized by short replication cycle, the ability to destroy infected cells and establish persistent (latent) infections. Natural-killer-cell cytotoxicity is attenuated during pregnancy. This physiological alternation may by associated with an increased susceptibility to various pathogenes such as HSV (symptomatic or asymptomatic) in the pregnant women. HSV cause genital infections ( genital herpes) in the pregnant women can by transmitted from infected mothers to fetal and neonates. Neonatal HSV can present with three types of infection: skin, eye, and mouth disease (SEM), central nervous system, and disseminated infection.
