Streszczenie
Kleine-Levin syndrome (recurrent hypersomnia) is a rare disorder, diagnosed by recurrent episodes of hypersomnia of more than 18 hours a day. These last from several days to several weeks. It is a disease which occurs in young men aged 10 to 25 years. The main symptoms are periodic hypersomnolence and excessive eating, accompanied by behavioral changes. Kleine-Levin syndrome is often misdiagnosed initially, because there is no on objective test for these conditions. This case concerns a seventeen-year-old boy. In the course of two years he had nine episodes of hypersomnia lasting between 5 and 7 days. The severity of hypersomnia prevented him from attending school. Outside the hypersomnia periods, he was asymptomatic. The case illustrates some of the difficulties in diagnosis and management. It is important to distinguish this syndrome from more serious organic and psychiatric diseases with more serious prognoses.
