Streszczenie
Aim. Progress in the genetics of atopic asthma has been outlined with reference to the pharmacogenetics of the disease. Two approaches are used in the research: the linkage analysis (whole genome srceening) and the candidate gene method. This paper presents important findings that determine the relationship between polymorphisms in candidate genes, which products participate in drug metabolism, and the treatment response. Review. A strong association between variable response to a-agonists and antyleukotrienes treatment and the genotype of asthma patients was found. Described relationships include polymorphisms in b2-adrenoreceptor gene and the response to b-agonist treatment and the polymorphism in the promoter region of lipooxygenase 5 gene and the response to antileukotriene medication. Conclusions. Findings described in this paper indicate the significant role of genotype of patients in asthma treatment and emphasize the need of developing asthma pharmacogenetics.
