Streszczenie
Background. Despite vaccinations in many countries higher prevalence of pertussiss is observed nowadays. The clinical outcome of pertussiss may be atypical. There is a possible relation between pertussis vaccination and pertussis morbidity with the increase of the atopic disease, taking into account atopic asthma as well.
Material and methods. We analyzed the data – medical history, physical examination and lab tests of patient hospitalized with diagnosis of pertussis (atopic and non-atopic) in 1999-2003. The aim of the study was to analyze the outcome of pertussis in atopic allergic children.
Results. We confirmed the presence of atypical pertussis symptoms both in atopic and non-atopic group and the change in surveillance in age groups, whit peak in school children. In patient with bronchial asthma pertussis may be the cause of exacerbation, however a bronchospasm was observed in non-atopic patients as well.
Conclusions. The clinical outcome of pertussis doesn´t differ significantly in atopic children in relation to children without any atopic disease.
