Streszczenie
The aim of the study was the quantitative assessment of intratumoral angiogenesis in neuroblastoma and to determine its link with chosen clinico-pathological features.
Material and methods. Tissue samples from 70 cases of neuroblastic tumors were evaluated (60 neuroblastoma Schwannian stroma-poor cases and 10 ganglioneuroblastoma). Patho-clinical data included: patient´s age, gender, tumor site and stage, moreover tumor histology, mitosis-karyorrhexis index and MYCN status. On HE slides the tumors were reassessed pathologically and the representative sections with high vessel number were chosen for the immunohistochemical staining with anti-CD34. In hot spots vascular density (VD) was counted semi-automatically with computer analyzer. The associations between data were calculated statistically.
Results. VD in examined group ranged 48-385 vessels/mm3 (median 145). In Schwannian stroma-poor tumors higher VD was associated with younger patient´s age and in untreated tumors it was significantly higher in infants than in children over one year of age.
Conclusions. Our results confirmed high vascularization of neuroblastoma. The angiogenic potential in neuroblastoma Schwannian stroma-poor showed association with the patients´ age.
