Streszczenie
The Western health care institutions worked out special programmes in an effort to improve the overall physical activity of the elderly, preventing at the same time the premature loss of mobility, immunity to every-day stress, infections and mental retardation. Programmes and strategies devoted to such issues are based on the physical, social and psychological potential of the elderly. The relevant literature review would indicate that diet and physical activity in the elderly should be seen as parallel issues. A balance diet and the appropriate eating habits combined with adequate physical activity can help the elderly to maintain their psychological and physical activity at a high level, contributing at the same time a lowering of the ever growing economic costs of becoming elderly.
