Streszczenie
Major changes have occured in the epidemiology of systemic fungal infections during the last two decades. The population of immunocompromised patients is growing. Frequent and prolonged exposure of immunocompromised patients to a variety of environmental conditions has resulted in the recognition of infections with new fungal opportunists. Infections with fungi such as Fusarium species, Acremonium species, Scedosporium, Malassezia furfur and Paecilomyces have become significant problems in the treatment. Gut colonisation followed by subsequent dissemination is characteristic of candidiasis, whereas sinopulmonary colonisation normally precedes invasive aspergillosis.
