Streszczenie
Osteomalacia is a generalized metabolic bone disorder characterized by defective mineralization. As a result, unmineralized osteoid accumulates and bone strength declines. The major cause of osteomalacia is vitamin D deficiency. Although, osteomalacia may result from alteration in the metabolism of vitamin D, phosphate deficiency or toxic effects on osteoblast function. The diagnosis of osteomalacia may easily be missed becouse of its non-specyfic symptoms commonly associated with the reumatic disorders. The authors present the clinical and biochemical abnormalites, radiological features, histological changes and treatment of osteomalacia.
