Summary
Cryosurgery or cryotherapy is relatively effective and noninvasive procedure in the treatment of many skin problems, especially in skin malignancies, warts and inflammatory diseases. It is widely used therapy, usually performed with liquid nitrogen, carbon dioxide and nitrous oxide. Rapid freezing causes disruption of intracellular organelles with subsequent direct cell damage, inflammation and altered vasculity lesions. Advantages of cryosurgery are noninvasiveness and relatively short treatment time. Side-effects include pain, blistering, hyperpigmantation and sometimes scars or reduced sensation.
