Summary
Objective: For the time being the psychosomatic approach to many somatic diseases is more and more common. At the same time a lot of inconsistencies and unreliability across those studies are being unveiled. These problems are related to the methodological aspects of interdisciplinary collecting data and specific clinical analyses. We investigated influences of the dermatological treatment on depressive symptoms among psoriatic patients. Methods: 40 hospitalized patients (mean age: 37.8, males: 23, females: 17) with psoriasis vulgaris (L40 according to ICD-10) were rated two times at the admittance and than before they were discharged with PASI and with 33-item Beck and Pichot´s Inventory of Depression Symptoms which includes also `ordinary´ 21-item Beck Depression Inventory. Results: PASI (I: 9.9 SD 4.8; II: 3,4; SD 3,0; p < 0.000) and Beck and Pichot´s Inventory of Depression Symptoms results (I: 53.5 SD 12,7; II: 50.0 SD 14.8; p < 0.01) improved simultaneously despite the fact that only dermatological treatment was administered. Significant antidepressive effects were rated mostly among female patients. The results of the `narrow´ Beck Depression Inventory didn´t improved significantly. Conclusions: Results underlie the susceptibility of the whole range of psoriatic and depressive symptoms to the dermatological treatment itself and confirm common psychosomatic model of psoriasis.
