Summary
Alopecia can be caused by a lot of different drugs, including: cytostatics, tyreostatic medications, anticoagulants, drug lowering cholesterol level, hormons, retinoids and β-blockers.
All 70 patients were subdivided into 4 following groups according to the drug administered: Neotigason (30), Roaccutane (20), Fraxiparine (10), Methotrexate (10). Control group consisted of 10 healthy volunteers. Trichograms were done in all the patients before the study, then repeatidly after 4, 8, 12, 16 and 24 weeks during the treatment. First abnormalities in trichograms were observed after 8 weeks of treatment due to Neotigason. Roaccutane and Fraxiparine induced visible changes in trichograms after 12 weeks of therapeutic regiment. These abnormalities were recognised as telogenic hair loss.
The earliest and most striking abnormalities were due to Methotrexate – they were observed after only 4 weeks of drug administration. In methotrexate group of patiens alopecia was diagnosed as the mixed type of hair loss. In the control group no abnormalities of the hair were observed.
