Summary
History taking and objective examination are still of fundamental importance in the diagnosis of venous system diseases. However, in many clinical situations it should be supplemented with instrumental methods for demonstrating objectively and for accuraete localization of venous system lesions. Out of invasive tests venography is described in more detail, along with direct measurements of venous blood pressure. Attention is called also to non-invasive methods, among which duplex scan method has become the "gold standard” in the diagnosis of venous system lessions. The rising role of microcirculation studies in the assessment of progression degree of chronic venous insufficiency is stressed.
