Streszczenie
Epidemiological data concerning legionellosis in Europe based on EWGLI data were presented and compared to polish data. Totally, 41 627 cases of Legionnaires´ disease were reported to EWGLI in 1993-2006. The mean European incidence was 0.41 per 100 000 in 1993 (1242 cases) but in 2006 – 1.12/100 000 (6280 cases). The number of participated countries increased (from 19 in 1993 to 35 in 2006) showing a continued increase of reported cases. The number of reported LDs increased also because of introducing new, modern methods of diagnosis as well as an implementation new regulations in UE and particular countries. The analysis of epidemiological data of legionellosis in Poland were done. In Poland the number of reported cases of legionellosis was very low each year (totally 169 cases in period 2003-2008). The highest number of cases was in 2006 (89) – because of scientific project. The majority of cases were reported in mazovia voievodship – 128 in period 2003-2008 (75.5%). Moreover, legionellosis cases (LD and GP) were observed also among children and the number of cases among children was higher than among adults. It was probably caused by active participation of some pediatricians. The low number of reported cases in Poland was probably caused by lack of microbiological examination for diagnosis of Legionella infections as well as an apprehension of financial responsibilities in case of positive result. Moreover, there is lack of regulations for minimalise the risk of spread of Legionella from aerosol generated by wet cooling system in Poland.
