Streszczenie
Targeted testing and treatment of latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) is a key element of tuberculosis control. This strategy is powerful because preventive treatment of people with LTBI reduces the risk of subsequent development of active TB by about 90%. Until recently the tuberculin skin test (TST) has been the only available test used to detect LTBI despite its drawbacks and many limitations. The new interferon gamma based assays (IGRAs), used to detect tuberculosis infections, have been developed and obtained CDC approval last years. These tests measure the IFN-γ production by sensitized lymphocytes after stimulation with ESAT-6, CFP-10 and TB7.7 (p4) M. tuberculosis antigens. They may be successfully applied in BCG vaccinated populations because of their antigen´s specificity. The sensitivity of IGRAs are higher than TST in detecting people with active tuberculosis. The last decade of science research has shown that the introduction of new blood tests is the significant achievement in the diagnosis of M. tuberculosis infection.
