Streszczenie
Over the last 20 years many standards of diagnostic, treatment and prevention of respiratory tract infections (RTI´s) created by national and international groups of experts were published. Nowadays a lot of attention is put towards a problem of increasing drug resistance associated with excess use use of antibiotics prescribed by both GP´s and specialists. The article covers treatment of lower respiratory tract infections including community acquired pneumonias, bronchitis and COPD exacerbations; upper respiratory tract infections were not included.Use of clearly devised algorithms may be a valuable help in doctor´s work. It will allow for objective evaluation of diagnostic and treatment in the community, and help deciding GP´ about the need for consultation or hospitalization in patients with RTI´s.
