Streszczenie
The term Polish colony physical education covers physical education and sport in qualified to this aim associations of ethnical character existing on foreign land. The development of physical education and of sport among Polish emigrants in selected countries of western Europe till 1939 was represented with reference to Germany, France, Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Austria.
First Polish colony of sport association which had gymnastics and sport quality was „Falcon”. In several countries it had already existed before the first World War. Further development of forms was especially deepened in years of interwar. „Falcon” (before 1914) sports club and sections associations of Polish young people and then: rifle club „Strzelec”, scout´s clubs and workmen´s come into being. Besides, in several countries there existed Polish tourist associations.
Dynamic development of sport in the period of twenty years interwar and participation sports successes of Polish representatives in Olympic Games became in the mobilizing factor for young people of a Polish colony Games for Poles from foreign lands which motivated them to practise sport.
In practice sport proved a universal method of activity among youth, accessible for all the Poles, without regard to political opinions, social origin or religion. It was accompanied by the password – „through sport to national consciousness”.
