Streszczenie
Alternative medicine have become very popular nowadays among patients to be ill with cancer. There is increasing evidence that nutrient intake may play a role in the development of cancer and outcomes of this illness treatment. Dietary measures may be helpful in preventing on cancers, there is no scientific evidence that any nutritionally regimen is appropriate as a primary treatment for cancer. However, many alternative diet treatments have been investigated in clinical trials and have been shown to be ineffective. Popularity of unconventional therapy is related to fear by increased cancer incidence, the lack of successful treatment and invasiveness of anticancer therapy. Alternative approaches are often promoted as natural and nontoxic and appear to offer patients an active role in their care. The review of available literature adverse effects have been documented when to use alternative methods such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, lose weight or even death. Some herbal medications may result in interactions with anticancer drugs and worsen an effectiveness of conventional therapy. Questionable methods involve a diet that is nutritionally inadequate, involve potentially toxic doses of vitamins and/or other substances and are quite expensive. All pose the risk that patients who use them as a method of treatment. The American Cancer Society therefore recommends that „nutritional cancer cures” be avoided.
