Streszczenie
Anogenital papillomavirus infections are caused by high-risk HPV associated with a variety of epithelial lesions, including cervical intraepithelial cancer or by low-risk HPV responsible for genital warts, including condylomata acuminata and giant condyloma acuminatum (Buschke-Lowenstein tumor) as well as recurrent respiratory papillomatosis.
Cervical infection with oncogenic type of HPV is well known to cause cervical cancer if untreated. Various factors, especially immunosupression increase the persistence and severity of infection and can promote progression to cancer. As a prevention of these HPV-related diseases very efficient vaccine was developed. Quadrivalent vaccine protects against both high- and low-risk types of HPV. This article reviews the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of HPV infections and its clinical manifestations, with particular regard to condylomata acuminata.
