Streszczenie
Inflammatory changes concerning oral cavity´s mucous membrane are group of diseases of various etiology. External factors, like chemical injuries, mechanical injuries or thermal injuries, can be cause of them. Many viral infections, including certain childhood infectious diseases, are progressing with accompanying changes concerning lips or oral cavity´s mucous membrane. Apart from viral infections, mycotic infections are often etiological factors of inflammatory process of oral cavity´s mucous membrane. Stomatitis can be one of symptoms of vitamin deficiency. Aphthosis is different group of inflammatory diseases concerning oral cavity.
Stomatitis is also one of side effect of head and neck chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment. Patients during antitumour treatment and also patients after bone narrow transplantation are exposed to occuring massive inflammatory changes that are source of strong pain discomforts and can lead to water-electrolyte disturbances.
Treatment of stomatitis is based on local therapy and applying suitable diet. Patients with reduced immunity, for example patients after chemotherapy and radiotherapy, can require systemic treatment.
