Summary
Introduction. The problem of heating disorders, especially anorexia concerns mostly younger patients. The primary prevention is very important and necessary to assess young people awareness about anorexia.
Aim. The aim of this study was to assess awareness of middle school age girls, on the issue of anorexia.
Material and methods. We examined 56 girls in middle school aged using a questionnaire consisting of 14 questions relating to personal data, basic anthropometric parameters (height and weight), lifestyle, and the presence of risk factors for anorexia.
Results. 84% of respondents knew the concept of anorexia. Much attention is paid to its appearance of a significant proportion of respondents. In the group of 36% were satisfied with 39% of girls are not satisfied with their appearance and used different methods of weight reduction mainly to avoid hunger or food.
Conclusions. Research has shown that younger girls are aware of how it should look rational nutrition and what they are eating disorders. Over 60% of respondents afraid of gaining weight, which is often associated with the opinion of peers and slimming by using improper diet. Youth lifestyle is not graded very well, so it is necessary to conduct health education and nutrition among children and young people to raise awareness and change bad eating habits.
