Summary
QT dispersion – i.e. the maximal difference between individual QT interval measurments in 12-lead ECG – was introduced in 1990 as a simple measure of dispersion of repolarization and propensity to sudden death. Despite vigorous research, its current position and clinical meaning is still the matter of dispute. Recent achievements of molecular genetics revealed genomic substrate of altered ionic channels physiology leading to dangerous arrhythmias and manifesting as QT elongation and increased QT dispersion.
