Summary
Introduction: Light-cured fillings in primary teeth do not present as good retention as in permanent. Thinner hard tissue structure, it’s weaker mineralization and often difficult cooperation with the patient affects adhesion quality.
Aim: Assessment of structure and retention of light-cured restorations – Compoglass F, in primary teeth after application of Opti Bond Solo Plus – total-etch, and self-etch adhesive system – Xeno V, 6 months after filling the cavities.
Material and methods: 28 children at age of 2.5 to 8 underwent treatment. Carious cavities were filled in the 21 first primary molars and 30 second primary molars and one canine. Overall 52 carious cavities of classes I, II and V according to Black were prepared and filled with the Compoglass F, after previous application of Opti Bond Solo Plus or Xeno V. Ryge's scale was adopted for the estimation.
Results: After applying Opti Bond Solo Plus 84.6% were estimated for “0”. In case of Xeno V “0” was reported in 38.5%. Total loss of retention concerned 2 among 52 examined restorations. In none of preserved fillings symptoms of secondary caries were detected.
Conclusions: When Xeno V was used porosity of the compomer’s margin was more often observed compared to the Opti Bond Solo Plus. Marginal adaptation of compomer light – cured fillings was improved after additional etching the edge of the enamel in total-etch technique.
