Summary
Introduction: The treatment of dento-occlusal disorders in the anterior part of the jaws assumes the elimination of reverse overjet, because the only correct overjet allows for further normal development of the jaws.
Aim: The aim of the study was to assess the changes in the maxillo-facial complex, of patients with malocclusion in the anterior segment of maxilla and mandible before and after the treatment with the use of the Schwarz plate.
Material and methods: We analyzed 25 sets of documentation, children aged 7 to 12 years of orthodontic treatment using the Schwarz plate, consisting of medical history, medical photographic documentation, diagnostic models, pantomogram and lateral telerentgenogram - before treatment (time T1) and after orthodontic treatment (time T2).
Results: The statistical analysis of the differences between the mean values of examined, measured before the beginning of orthodontic treatment (T1) and after the treatment (T2) showed that all researched measures of soft tissues, skeletal and dental parameters that respectively define the facial profile, the skeletal relation (skeletal angles) and dental relation (overjet, anterior length of maxilla and dental angles) were statistically significant towards in achieving the values with the range of standards population norms.
Conclusions: The treatment of disorders of the anterior segment with the use the Schwarz's plate allows to have a correct relationships between maxillary and mandibulary incisors.
