Summary
The heterogeneity of a group of people in the elderly and the physiological and pathological changes findings are important factors that modifying the demand for energy and nutrients as well as poses a challenge in the development of universal dietary guidelines during this period of life. For this reason, a systematic monitoring of nutrition and correcting current errors of elderly people and it helps to slow down the pace of biological aging and the occurrence of adverse health consequences. The correct way of eating of the elderly after the age of 65 is especially important, because it is the group of people that is particularly vulnerable to the presence of chronic non-communicable diseases, including cardiovascular disease, certain types of malignant tumors and diabetes type 2. The actions that would improve the diet of this population group should be undertaken on the level of the Government and the local governments, both in mass catering and individual nutrition, so that every of the elderly was subjected to far-reaching health prevention, including the correct diet. The aim of the study was analysis the nutrition of the elderly, taking into account the factors which determine the diet and the demand for specific nutrients in the light of the recent recommendations of the Institute of Food and Nutrition.
